Characterization and Classification of Soil on Varying Lithology in Okigwe Imo Southern Eastern, Nigeria

The field study was carried out in Okigwe South-eastern Nigeria. Three profiles were sunk soils of each parent material. Soil samples subjected to routine and standard laboratory analysis for selected physic- chemical properties. morphological physic-chemical properties the varied widely, sand size particles dominated other particle sizes with mean values 448, 538 648 g kg-1 on sandstone, while derived from Imo clay shale 583 Umuna. Clay Shale bulk density recorded highest at NIHORT 1, 416 15 respectively. All pedons exhibited sandy loam topsoil relatively more clayey subsoil. Total nitrogen correlated positively significantly (0.5) organic matter both soils. negatively ECEC sandstone shale, not significant. false bedded (NIHORT 2 3) classified according USDA soil Taxonomy as Inceptic Paleudults which translate Dystric Nitisols WRB system. Soils Umuna Typic Hapludalf 3 class II capability classification III. In conclusion these two materials sustain farm produce, if proper land use practices special conservation crop production are adopted.
